Sweet Sixteen and Brasil . . .

From Elder Burnham's email dated February 13, 2010:

In Quarta Colonia...

A girl from the ward named Isa.

Me and my companion, Elder Bryson, in the same place but above the little city.

Preparation day in a little city near Santa Maria called Quarta Colonia. This is in front of the Chapel.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALIVIA!!! My goodness you are actually 16 now, I cannot believe it. What happened to the little girl. Braces are gone, a license is arriving, and boys are on the lookout. You are not aloud to date until I get home!!!

SPENCER IS COMING TO BRASIL!!! Yeah, this is the (second) best country in the world! I always thought that he would. Is that the same mission that Jacob served? Only one transfer after Kolton, that is crazy! They are friends, too, and it will be so cool for them to grow together on the mission, haha!!! That is so awesome.

This week was really cool. Elder Bryson and I went to Cruz Alta to do a division with the Zone Leaders there, who are Elder Felix and Elder Christensen. We stayed there for 3 days and it was great to be able to work [two days] with Elder Christensen. He is the man and a true friend. It is crazy to see the growth in the both of us over the last year and six months, and also of Elder Mathys, who lives with and works in the same area as Elder Christensen. I also got to go on Thursday morning to my old area and visit some of my recent-converts like Fatima, Vinicius and Marcelo. I loved that city so much.

While I was with Elder Felix on Wednesday, we were teaching a lesson to a woman and her daughter, but there were dogs. children, neighbors and so much noise that it was so hard to teach. I prayed for it to be calm and right after we taught about the apostasy and gave the transition for the restoration, the children went inside, the neighbor left, the dog ran away. The situation became perfect for the woman to feel the spirit. It was awesome to see how God prepared the climate for her to hear.

Dad, yeah, I already have that quote but it is a good one. It is a solemn truth that difficulties and trying situations are what bring about happiness in this life. I focus on the mission, but that doesn't mean that I haven't made at least a few plans for after the mission. The concept is the same for both, in truth; and truly, it is work that makes a man.

I love you. Happy birthday to Pa and Grandma Burnham!!! I hope you all the best. Just keep the commandments of the Lord...

Com Amor,
Elder Burnham
