[Ouch] . . .

From Elder Burnham's email, dated May 22, 2010:

Sorry for my hard language, but [ouch]. I was in a meeting with President yesterday in which he showed us the full calendar for when President and Sister Ribeiro arrive. Yeah, so, basically, I am not going to do anything my last month as a missionary, mission-wise. My last month is traveling Sunday night to Saturday morning for 3 weeks, haha. We will guide President and help him know the areas and the missionaries, with a ton of conferences and interviews. If I am lucky, I will be able to divide sometimes with the missionaries in other areas while he is interviewing/meeting everyone, but I am not going to ever be in my own area, even on Sunday one week. This means that my last month will pass even faster than any other time on my mission (if it wasn't already going to pass fast enough!); and, I won't have the pleasure to enjoy it. Oh well, it will be quite the experience - one that few missionaries ever have.

This week was good. Last Saturday was the baptism of Claudia and was good. There were few people there but it was awesome. She is a great woman and the change in that whole family is a miracle. There are just so happy. This week we are going to baptize Leonardo, who is Cleusa's, a recent-convert, son. He wasn't living with her when we baptized her in January, but now all of her kids went back to her and we are working with them. We also marked the date of that family: Roberto, Edimara, and Jamile (and Jean, but he is 6 and won't be baptized). This may be the most special family that I have ever met on my mission. I don't think my desire to baptize anyone has ever been so great. If they were the only converts of my entire mission, I would be satisfied. Edimara is the most elect woman ever, Jamile is super cool, and Roberto is a future leader without doubt. The only problem, is that Roberto and Edimara both smoke, Roberto much more than Edimara. This is proving to be a difficulty as they are lessening the amount but have yet to stop. Though they all accepted the date, I don't know if Roberto yet has a testimony of the gospel, and to stop smoking is difficult for someone who doesn't have that clarity of thought, even if he believes it. He must know it. So, I ask for all your prayers on their, and especially his, behalf. Edimara and Jamile received a response to their prayers and were are so excited for the baptism. Jamile is already attending seminary, which is awesome..

Thank you so much for your prayers and support. I love you all so much. Be good and endure well!

Com Amor,
Elder Burnham
