Week 18 -- Week 9 from Sao Gabriel

Zack entitled this weeks email "Blisters and Sad Stories". Here is an excerpt:

"Okay, the week was good, though the title seems bad. So, no matter how hard Elder Abreu and I try, we still seem to walk for miles and miles each day; and yes, my feet do hurt and have blisters - even with the Dr. Scholl's gel pads; thanks so much for those Mom!

We are working with one part-member family with a little girl who is not baptized named Vitória. The mother was baptized when she was 15 years-old and has been inactive for about 10 years. She had no contact with the Church and even now does not know much about us - even though she is technically a member. The family was found by the sisters before us and they baptized one of her girls. So, since Vitória is now 8 she too can, and wants, to be baptized. After about a month, I gave a message about "hope in Christ" to the family, based on my missionary scripture (Moroni 7:40-42) and the Spirit was very strong. The mother, Janaína, went to Church for the first time in ten years. So we went back the next week and we set a date for Vitória's baptism. But the next day, we went and found out that the family is having a very hard time financially and may have to move. So we had to postpone the baptism. But, we are going there this week and hopefully we can help, maybe explain about blessings because the mother is very stressed and the father works on the farms, which means he only comes home once every 15 days. Anyway, pray for this family. They are wonderful and the mother is trying to stop smoking and is starting to pray and read the Book of Mormon again.

We taught a lot of lessons this week and found some new investigators. We have some baptism potential investigators, but we have to get them to fully understand the importance of the gospel and of prophets and also get them to go to church. Everything is going well here and I thank you all for your support and prayers."

As an answer to some of my questions, he wrote:

"My area, I guess, you would call poorer. There are some so poor I cannot even believe it, but some richer, too. The member meals are fantastic - I love rice and beans!"

Thanksgiving to Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the Holidays! I am especially excited this year to receive Zack's call. He can only call us two times a year: Christmas and Mother's Day. We have not received any information as to when, how long, etc., but I'm sure that will be forthcoming. I'm guessing he will call us, collect, give us a number and we will call him back on that number. It's an exciting time for our family.

Merry Christmas
!
