Week 32 -- Week 5 from Santa Maria

Today has been a very exciting day for us. Our new grandchild entered the world--Amelia. In addition, we received an email from Zack, excerpted below:

"So, this week was definitely very different than the others thus far on the mission. I spent the whole week (and will spend this week as well) just in the office. My companion, Elder Botelho, is in the area of Elder Favreau, who got his appendix out and is recuperating in the office for two weeks (he was the Financial Secretary for 9 months, so it make sense for him to be here). So, I worked in the office everday until 5-7 at night and then we divided to teach at night. One Elder stays with Elder Favreau in the house. It is strange how mentally tiring it is to be in the office. I like working in the office; it is fun and cool to be around President, and it is kind of feels like I'm back in Seattle doing the work there with Dad. But, it is really strange to look at our numbers for the week and not have many lessons. Returning home at night without being really sweaty just is not my style I guess, haha . . .

There is a good side, though, and that is this week we were really able to focus on people. It doesn't work to try to knock doors and find new people at night, so we just had to stick with our group of investigators. It was good to just sit and focus on what we need to do to help them progree. These next couple of weeks could turn out to be very fruitful. Surely your prayers will be very welcome!

It was pretty cool, too, to be able to work with Elder Christensen a little. It was definitely strange to go out, two young American missionaries, and work together. It was really cool. Living and serving with him is almost like being on the mission with a friend from home. It actually went really well. He is a very good speaker and teacher in Portuguese (well, probably in English, too, haha).
