Below is Elder Burnham's latest email, October 19, 2009:
So, I am writing you this week from Santa Maria. It is awesome to be here, walking the streets so familiar again. Today and tomorrow is the Council with the assistants, Sister and President [Myrrha]. I am super excited. We just finished our interviews with President and it was really cool. We reviewed the Zone and talked about everyone and President gave a lot of ideas. I am excited. We have meetings and trainings with President. We also have dinner, breakfast (tomorrow) and family night.
So, this was my first week in Livramento, and it was great. I went exactly where I wanted to go. Elder Silva is the man and we are going to do some good work here. I got here and we marked 4 dates for this next Saturday--Luana, 11, Junior, 17, Sonia, 40, and Jenifer, 12. Pray for them. I am very excited to do some good work here and also to help out in this zone.
Lin, thanks for the pictures. The wedding looked beautiful, and Amelia as well.
Alivia, FREAK!!! Swine Fever[flu]! That is crazy. Everyone in Brasil goes crazy when you talk about it, haha. It will be funny to tell people that my sister has it. I hope that you are feeling better.
Mom, don't worry. Presidente is fully aware of Uruguai and yes, I am authorized to enter, as are all missionaries. The border of Brasil and Uruguai is the only border in the world that is free. You just cross the street and you are in Uruguai. We teach there! We are going to baptize a girl who lives on the other side of the border. It is super cool. Elder Silva said that he loves you, haha, for the food in my package. He is cool. I got the package and also the snail mail, thanks so much!
Congratulations to Makenna and to Jace! I cannot believe that Makenna is getting married - I told you so, haha. I hope all is well. Thank you for the prayers and for the letters and packages as well!!
Com amor,
Elder Burnham
