Week 4 from Sao Paulo

It is always so nice to receive Zackary's weekly email. I'm wondering if the days will ever move more quickly between the weekly emails. I'm told they will, but you couldn't prove it by me thus far.

Zackary is truly enjoying his service, though hard and humbling. In this week's email he stated:

"This week was proselyting week number one, and it was fantastic. It felt incredible to actually be a 'real' missionary and go out and preach. My companionship was given six Livro de Mórmons and about 40 pass-a-long cards and we gave them all away. We were in downtown São Paulo and there were a lot off people, so Elder McGruder and I made our way to some neighborhoods. The first lady I talked to was a little, kind old lady who was sweeping her driveway. After greeting her and all that jazz, I asked her, "Você acredita em Jesus Cristo?" [Do you believe in Jesus Christ?] Her answer was a resounding, "Sim, muito acredito." (Yes, I believe.) I then told her about Christ and gave her a card to get a DVD about Him. After that I was pumped and after a few more cards with the same kind of approach, I rattled off LDMs (I do not know what this means) to three straight people: one older man whose wife and I talked about families; one younger mom with some kids running around (talked about families again); and a younger guy smoking a cigarette who had a friend who was a member. We also found a late 20's woman, and two teenage boys. One of the teenagers seemed really interested and I think will read it. The only bad thing is we don't know if any proselyting will bear fruit. I think the best part, other than hopefully blessing people's lives, haha, is that I never used my memorized, prepared message. I just talked and made stuff up and preached the true Word. It was truly incredible.

The language is coming very well. I can understand a lot of what is said when people talk slow or about the gospel; and; I can walk around on P-day (Preparation Day--laundry, shopping, etc.) and talk a little with store owners and people and kind of get by. It is truly a miraculous work. There is no way that anyone could learn a language this fast without the Spirit guiding them and having nosso Pai Celestial blessing us because it is true; and, He wants to have all His children hear the message because He loves them all. I am in no means good at all with the language, but I see the progress I and the members of my district are making with all of our hard work and the Spirit.

Until next week....
