Another week has come and gone at the MTC in Sao Paulo. Elder Burnham is ready to move on and get into the field even though he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at the MTC. I know he has made some great friends. He has three more weeks before he heads down to his mission area--Santa Maria.
Here is an excerpt from his last letter:
"This week was the second time going proselyting. I think I told you that last time I went downtown . . . well, I lied. I thought that was the city because it was bigger and had more people than Seattle, but as we stopped in this place I found out that last time it was only the outskirts. It was unbelievable the number of people on the streets, but I guess that is what I should have expected in a city of 20 million! Last time we had the opportunity to go into neighborhoods and it was relatively easy to talk to people. This time . . . well, let's just say that I felt the bitter sting of rejection, a lot! Elder McGruder and I didn't give out any Book of Mormons until the last 10 minutes of a 2 hour trip--though we did give out all four that we had. Person after person, was no, no, no--teenagers, men, women, families; everyone speaking so fast that I catch one word a sentence - haha! It was tiresome, but it was great and it was real. I love proselyting--it is easily the best thing so far. Next time I think we get to go to a park, which is supposed to be the best place. Estou muito animado!
The language is coming along. Anytime I think that I am doing well, I get humbled by some experience. It will be a while before I am fluent, but as long as I am able to teach the lessons, it's all good."
In other news, Elder Burnham received a letter here in Seattle from his Mission President in Santa Maria. Thank goodness for scanners and email. I was able to scan the documents and send them to Zackary. We received a new address for sending letters and packages. If you wish to write to him, here is the address:
