Zackary's email did not arrive yesterday, as was expected. I sit with baited-breath at the computer, every Monday, hitting the refresh button hoping to see an email from him. By 10 p.m. our time (it being 4 a.m. his time), I gave up. I was thrilled to get home from work and find his email today, which he entitled "Sorry..."
"We did not have the opportunity to email yesterday, so sorry.
First, I received some delayed Christmas letters and want to say thanks to the Coons, Calverts and Sister Wilks for the letters. I cannot believe the things that Mark has experienced. The pictures from the Calverts were the best, and I will remember that story Sister Wilks; it is truly inspiring for missionary work. Oh, and thanks to the First Presidency for their letter, too.
So, this last week was very good. We taught the most lessons I have taught in a week and we marked a date with Francielle. She will be baptized this Saturday and there should be many non-members there, so it will be very good for our work. We also had a very special lesson this last week. We found a new investigator named Soilamar because she called to receive a DVD from a card that had been given to her in the hospital. We arrived there to a kind woman, about 40, but with a great spiritual lacking. She was just, sad. So we taught her our first lesson, and she enjoyed it and invited us back. At the second lesson, her countenance was much brighter. She told us how her daughter had obtained her first employment and she was very happy. We taught about Joseph, and she really liked it and said that she believed it and invited us back. The third lesson she invited another one of her daughters. She was once again much brighter and happier. She had gotten work and another one of her daughters, also. We taught the Book of Mormon and how she can know more than just believe. Her daughter, Miriã (or Miriam, like the sister of Moses) also had the desire to know and liked to read. She had already ready 3 Nephi 11 when we left. But the best part was that while we were teaching, the mom told us that her life for the last couple of years had just been very sad, and now, all of a sudden, we appear and everything is going great; and, she is happy for the first time in years! So, we'll see I guess...
Closing note - I was reading through the conference talks (yes, in Portuguese), and I noticed a very great point by Elder Lawrence C. Corbridge that says to this effect: "Life is hard, but living the gospel is simple. There are only two choices-- live it or any other choice." I thought that was great. There is "just do it," or anything else you want. People will make it seem like the gospel is hard to live, but it isn't. Just live it, live it 100%, or choose anything else. There is no middle ground. I know that doctrine is true because I like honey, and I find it to be sweet.
Thank you all very much for everything. I love you all very much!
Com Amor,
Elder Burnham"
