Elder Burnham, Monday, December 7, 2009:
Thank you so much, Brother and Sister Thompson, for the letter. It is so wonderful to receive letters from the members of the Ward and to feel your support for me. Thank you!!!
First off, it is so great to hear that Amelia has been improving and continues to improve every day. I have learned over the past week what President Hinckley said in an interview when asked how many times a day a member should pray. The answer was 3. Then he was asked how many times a day he prayed, and he said just once, and that he remained always in the spirit of prayer. I have come to learn from this experience what the spirit of prayer is, and also what it means to be tired.
This week was very different but absolutely incredible. On Monday and Tuesday we had the Council, and it was incredible. It is wonderful to talk with and learn from President and Sister Myrrha and also to feel the sense of unworthiness to see the level of responsibility he puts in me. This council was amazing, and one of the greatest spiritual experiences of my entire life. I could not describe in full detail the feelings and what transpired in that room, but let it suffice to say that we had a testimony meeting of sorts, finished by President Myrrha. It was incredible. No one managed to sing the mission hymn after.
After the council, I went directly to Quarai to do a division with Elder Griffin. It was great to work with him. He is one of my better friends on the mission and it was so great to be able to learn from him and help him as well. It was a great 3 days. But, it was very strange to come back to my area after an entire week away. This week I will do another division and then one more week in the transfer. It is sad to not be there in your own area to help out and teach and baptize. But, that is the life [of a missionary] . . .
I love you. Thank you so much for all of the help that you give in so many ways!
Com Amor,
Elder Burnham
