First off, I want to say thank you to the Moss family, the Thompsons, the Hammers, the Tryons, the Chumleys, the Calverts, the Elder's Quorum Presidency (it is really strange to think that that is my quorum and they were writing me as my leaders - I am getting old), and the First Presidency (yes, I got a letter from the First Presidency for Christmas). I really hope that I am not fogetting anyone else, but thank you so much for the Christmas greetings and wishes. It is so great to feel the love and support of all of you and the ward in my service.
Also, happy birthday to Aunt Joanie and to Grandma Souhrada!!! And to you too, Mom, next week.
This week was the first week that I had to travel. We had Zone Conference in Cruz Alta and in Santo Angelo. It was great to be able to go back to Cruz Alta and see some of the people there that I knew and just remember the many experiences that I had there. It seems like so long ago that I left. The conferences went well and it was especially a wonderful experience to travel with President and Sister Myrrha and hear their awesome stories and be able to converse with them about so many things. I stayed in a hotel for the first time in a year-and-a-half and ate in some good restaurants, haha. Next week I will be traveling to Uruguaiana, Alegrete and Livramento to finish out the Zone Conferences, so that should be fun and tiring as well.
We arrived back in the area to work. We are going to have two baptisms this afternoon, of Otavio and Cristian, 12 and 10. They are the children of a woman who we found who was baptized about 15 years ago and left the Church soon after, but who loves the Church and is going every week for about a month now. Her husband, Andre, has also accepted baptism, so he just has to get married and the whole family will be in the Church. We also marked the date of that woman, Analia, for next week; and, though not yet marked, will have the baptism of the family of Cleusa, a woman who also accepted baptism and just has a few problems that have to be resolved before entering the waters with her kids. Things are looking great in the area and we are working hard to be there as much as possible to do the work.
[Regarding Haiti]: Dad, the Church always does get there first. Here on the news it said, "The first to respond was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, followed shortly behind by the Mormon Church." It is so funny how no one has any idea, haha.
Mom, I received all of the Christmas packages, but not the [most recent] one. Thank you for everything! I got the shirt and the tie and everything. I think that it is awesome that Kolton is coming to Brasil. I love this country!
Com Amor,
Elder Burnham
